When I have kids, I'll never...

I have a very clear memory of riding in the car with my family and listening to Mary Kate and Ashley's totally annoying children's songs. My little sister was a big fan. I was not. It was horrible. I pledged to my 15 year old self, that I would never let my children listen to such trash.

That is one of the many pre-parenting pledges I have broken in the past 10 months. Jose has tried to keep it cool with lullaby versions of U2 and Coldplay. I have not. The other day, Papi & Turo were off playing upstairs and it was a good 10 minutes before I realized the boy's CD was still on. I frequently find myself humming songs with lyrics like "this is a choo-choo train, going down the track" and "I've got the toe-tapping blues." But they make Turo happy, so we listen.
Plastic outdoor toys were also on the forbidden list. Until yesterday. Turo needs something to keep him occupied while I attempt to garden and work in the yard. So I became obsessed with Craigslist and Freecycle(at least I was being environmentally friendly and budget savvy here). I scoured the posts multiple times a day since I soon learned outdoor plastic toys go quickly in cyberspace. After a couple weeks of searching, we picked up our very own plastic climber and slide yesterday. Turo is a fan, and I actually did some digging while he played. Score!

Haha! I know what you mean! I swore I would NEVER have bikes and balls in my front yard, b/c I thought it was so trashy. Well, they are there. But they are put to the side and not just out in the yard...does that count? :) Love the pics of your boy playing and soaking up the sun.

Hi Sara,

Your Aunt Andrea in Portland, here. I wanted to suggest a few music ideas. The Sugar Beats are my favorite. Grown up songs, sung with kids. The lead singer is the daughter of Carol King, I think. Very doable for us. Also, there is a multi cd set of sesame street that came out about 5 years ago. And Liam loved The Pogues, The Rolling Stones and The Gypsy Kings when he was little. All things we could cope with! Oh, and we usually put him to sleep with classical music, before switching to books on tape. Hope all is well!
