Our Trip Part 3: Other sights

Merkato – According to our driver this is the largest market in Africa. There were blocks of stores and people selling stuff on the side of the street. We just drove through it because our driver said we might be robbed if we walked around. It was a bustling place.

Asni Gallery – Another one of my favorites. The gallery was set on the beautiful grounds of a former palace (which was actually more like an old Southern mansion.)Several artists live and work here. The art was for sale and there were many reasonably priced works in a variety of styles . The compound was really quite magical and serene, and I would highly recommend a visit.

(The painting we bought here)

Lion Zoo – I’m not that into zoos, but our driver was so enthusiastic about the Lion Zoo that we had to include it in our itinerary. As the name implies, the zoo houses a lot of lions. Solomon told us the best time to go was before lunch otherwise the lions would be napping. In addition to lions, we saw a baboon and a few other random animals. The gardens here were very pretty.
