Black History Month Read-In

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) are encouraging people to read African American literature during Black History Month. I love reading and really enjoyed the now shuttered Eyes on Books club. So, I want to propose a virtual Read-In during February of Letter to My Daughter, Maya Angelou's collection of essays on life.

Here is a paragraph from the introduction:

I gave birth to one child, a son, but I have thousands of daughters. You are Black and White, Jewish and Muslim, Asian, Spanish-speaking, Native American and Aleut. You are fat and thin and pretty and plain, gay and straight, education and unlettered, and I am speaking to you all. Here is my offering to you.
The only requirement of the Read-In seems to be sending in a count of the readers at the end of the month. So, if you (family, friends, bloggers, adoptive mothers, mom's work friends, random people) are interested in reading along with me, either comment or shoot me an e-mail at livewithlaughter (at) hotmail.com.

Hi Sara, I'll join you.

I have to order Maya Angelou's "Daughter" from Amazon... but I will, because I want it anyway.

Yay, thanks!
